How To Compare Treadmills
When shopping for a treadmill you can easily become confused by all the different features that each offers. While some treadmills will be strong in one area, they may be weak in another area. In order to compare treadmills and help you decide which one to purchase, it's best that you make a list of all the different features and compare all the treadmills on your lists side-by-side. Here's a list of features that should be compared between treadmills to help you find the best option for your needs.
Motor Size
In electric treadmills, a motor that is too small will be underpowered and wear out much faster. A self cooling motor that provides at least 2hp should be considered.
Cushioning
Take a look at the shock absorption system and compare it between models as this can adversely affect your comfort on the treadmill.
Belt
The belt should be a 4 ply belt, which is durable and will last.
Deck Size
Compare the size of the running surface and opt for the largest one that you can fit in the space you have available.
Rollers
This may not seem important, but a larger roller will give you a smoother walking surface and last much longer. Look for rollers that are at least 2.5 inches.
Frame
Check the quality of the welds and the metals used. Also, consider the maximum weight that can safely use the treadmill as this will be very telling. If the treadmill can hold at least 350 pounds, you know that it will stand up to daily use, even if you don't way that much.
Computer Display
Compare the controls and ensure they are large enough for you to see while you're using the treadmill.
Warranty
Warranty coverage can vary and can give you an indication of how confident the company is in their products. Lifetime warranties on some components are available on some models.
Size
Some treadmills are large and require a large space, while compact treadmills don't need as much space. Compare and ensure that you have enough room for the proposed treadmill.
Incline
Check the number of degrees that the treadmill will incline. If you plan on working out hard, you may want a steeper incline from time to time.
